How to Download Facebook Videos in HD Quality

Downloading Facebook videos and Reels is easier than it looks — once you know which links work and which don't. Here's the complete guide.

Quick Summary: Copy the Facebook video URL → paste into SaveClips → click Download → save the HD file. Facebook videos need to be public and the link needs to be complete.

SaveClips works with any public Facebook video or Reel, including:

  • Regular video posts — URLs that look like facebook.com/watch?v=123456
  • Reels — short vertical videos on the Reels tab
  • Page videos — videos published by Pages and groups (when public)
  • fb.watch links — the short share links Facebook generates

The most reliable way to get a working link is to use the Share → Copy link button on the video itself, rather than copying your browser's address bar URL (which can be long, truncated, or point to a feed instead of the video).

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1 — Find the Video on Facebook

Open the Facebook app or website and navigate to the video you want to save. It can be on a Page, in a public group, or from a friend's public profile.

Step 2 — Copy the Share Link

Tap the Share button under the video, then choose Copy link. On desktop, click the share icon and select "Copy link" from the menu.

Tip: Avoid copying the URL from the browser address bar — Facebook often appends tracking parameters that can interfere with downloads. The share button gives you a clean link.

Step 3 — Paste Into SaveClips

Go to SaveClips, paste the link into the input box, and click Download. Our servers retrieve the highest-quality version Facebook is serving — typically 720p or 1080p depending on the source.

Step 4 — Save the File

When processing finishes, click Save to Device. On iPhone the file goes to Files; on Android it lands in Downloads; on desktop your browser saves it to your download folder.

Why a Facebook Download Sometimes Fails

Facebook is one of the stricter platforms about automated access, and downloads fail more often than on other networks. Common causes:

  • The video is private or "friends-only": No downloader can retrieve content Facebook restricts. If the post isn't visible to the public, it can't be downloaded.
  • The link is incomplete: Long Facebook URLs sometimes get cut off when copied from a chat or email. Re-copy it from the Share button.
  • Temporary rate-limiting: Facebook aggressively limits automated requests from shared IPs. If you hit this, wait 10–15 minutes and try again.
  • The post was deleted: If the original post is taken down, the download link stops working.

What Quality Will I Get?

SaveClips always requests the best available format. Facebook encodes most uploads in multiple qualities (480p, 720p, and sometimes 1080p), and we pull the highest one. Two things affect the result: the resolution the uploader originally posted, and whether Facebook is currently serving that rendition to our servers. You can read more in our Video Quality & Formats guide.

Downloading for personal, offline viewing is widely accepted in most jurisdictions. Redistributing or monetising content you don't own requires explicit permission from the rights holder. See our Copyright & Fair Use and Disclaimer pages for details.
